I just chanced across some humble haikus I believe I popped out during a friendly "haiku slam" at a bardic circle five or six years ago, figured I'd recycle them here. Feel free to add your own. Best one I see receives temporary use of the coveted and rarely bestowed "Grand Master Hinode" title.

Lobes, toes and nose-tips,
Everything so tasty, yum
When chocolate-coated

songs flow like wine, tales
like warm, deep honey-- laughter
and life surround us

Peculiar modern-
day sacrifice. Marshmallow
Peeps burn merrily.

glistening red fish
thoughts shatter sing acid in
the water supply?

And two by a deceased Hawaiian comedian named Rap Replinger:

Someone has painted
my door. Stranger sings in my
bathtub. Oops...wrong house.

Endless wait in a
nonexistant line. Oh, banks
closed on Saturday.

Yes, indeed, that is the classical, and original definition (tho' if I recall correctly, there was some degree of structural and stylistic evolution/progression, even there, ne?). It could be argued (and perhaps successfully at that), that in the modern parlance of uncultured ignorant western barbarians, haiku more commonly refers simply to the metric structure, and not the seasonal reference, caesura, etc.

And more importantly for the purposes of a slam or improv, ya get more people to particpate when ya keep the rules simple, Mr. Party-pooper. *grin*
