chelidonClimate study: Eastern U.S. 'going to get a lot hotter'
Yikes. Within my son's lifetime, *average* summer highs in the Southeast of 115 degrees, average highs even in Canada of low to mid-90s? Not good at all. That's complete environmental catastrophe. And there's simply no way the power grid could keep up with the demand for A/C, even if the increased use of electricity didn't just accelerate the problem.
They only had funding to study the eastern U.S., but one can extrapolate to other regions, and I can only surmise that it doesn't look good.
Anyone not paying attention to climate change at this point has their eyes closed.

Date: 2007-05-14 02:37 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, the people making policy and the people who decide who can be elected to make policy are all those who a) directly benefit from maintaining the status quo and b) will be dead by the time our children are adults. I find it most disheartening that even though I vote in every election, the people who are available to vote for are all in the little select cadre who really don't change anything.
