hamming it up
Sep. 21st, 2005 06:03 pmLots of drama 'round here lately, but that's actually a good thing in this case ;>
We did a murder mystery dinner last week -- good (six-course) food, good wine, and...well, better acting than your typical community theatre production of "Ten Little Indians," anyway. We had fun accusing each other of all kinds of heinous things, only some of them true. Pictures start here -- for the rest, just hit the forward arrow until you get to the county fair pics. Those of you who know the people involved may be amused by the typecasting...
And the pics of my boy's Pirate b-day party are up, here. My favorite of the lot is this one. The only thing I didn't get a good picture of was the inside of the "cave," which was pitch black inside, except for the skull of "Black Bart," glowing green from the inside (glowstick), sitting atop a pair of skeletal hands from which the little darlins had to snatch a gold coin... ;> If you want to see the script of the event (explaining what's going on), it's up here. We all had a complete and total blast, especially the kids, but I'm not sure who had more fun, kids or adults. And I got to teach a little swordplay to 6-year-olds...start 'em young, sez I!
And for the first time in at least 6 years, maybe more, I went out and auditioned for something, local performing arts company, been around 25 years -- I've been kinda way busy with other things since my son was born, and I get plenty of venues to do various kinds of performing-type stuff as it is. The audition was fun, I got the part, and now it looks like I can't take it because my planned travels in October and December would cause me to have to miss too many rehearsals. Waiting now to hear back from the producer and director whether they want to make an exception to their standard rehersal policy, but either way, c'est la vie. It's nice to be asked, and was fun to really trot out my stuff for the first time in a long while.
[EDIT: got a call from the Producer that the company's Artistic Director didn't want to lose me, and was willing to work with me to make up missed rehersals as needed. I could take this as an ego-boost, but I suspect it has more to do with having a particular vocal range than any inherent goodness of my soul ;> Still, I'm in the show! That makes three of us in the house now involved with this particular production. One of my Lovely Housemates is in the chorus, and another is going to do set design and graphic arts for the program, etc. Drama Queens 'R; Us!]
