In between going out hiking this morning with my partner to find Pitcher plants and Sundews (carnivorous plants are cool), and going out to the lake to swim and play this afternoon, my 5-year-old son sat happily in the house and listened to Tchaikovsky for two hours, spending part of that time having a very animated conversation with the composer, critiquing in detail various sections of the works he was listening to, making suggestions for improvements. My mind boggles. And I have a huge smile plastered on my face. And good goddess I am grateful for every moment I get to spend seeing this amazing little person grow.

Good taste in music, too. Of course, that may change, at least for a while...

[wheezy old guy voice] You call that music?! That's crap! Let me stick some good stuff on here, some Led Zeppelin or old Pink Floyd, or...whaddya mean, Nine Inch who? Oh, dang it, how do you get these new-fangled things to work?! Kids these days... [/wheezy old guy voice]

*grin*

We play classical music CDs for Ian at night while he sleeps, he quite enjoys it... also helped this weekend when we were up in NY for Sirius Rising and were in the hotel, helped him feel a little more comfortable in the strange place.

Actually, he enjoys music *period*... when I put something on he immediately stops what he is doing and looks towards the source of the music... he was rocking to John Petrucci last night (solo album by Dream Theater guitarist).

Ah, that's so cool. I started singing to F in the womb, C would call me over when he started kicking (he ended up 24" at birth, so he was crammed in there tiiiiight), and I could always calm him down, and that's kept up 'til the present day. He definitely loves music, pretty much all kinds, but he's very fond of classical, especially loud classical ;>

That's great! Ian was introduced to lots of music in the womb, live music, including Dream Theater and Blackmore's Night. He kicked a *lot* at the Blackmore's Night concert. :-)

Yes they are! (adds that to interests) Have you ever seen a Sensitive plant?

Which pieces? How do you know Piotr wasn't there?

Well, this time it was the 1812 Overture, one of his most favorite pieces (full of exploding things, natch), the Marche Slave, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, Capriccio Italien, and the Hamlet Fantasy Overture.

And I have no doubt that Piotr may well have been on the other end of that conversation ;>
