I've been listening to Peter Mayer this morning, an incredibly talented singer/songwriter that a dear old friend who I've been thinking of a lot recently introduced me to. Two of the song lyrics tickled my fancy in particular, so I thought I'd share them.

Awake

Clouds are swift
Rocks are ancient
Mountains are high, oceans great
Winds are restless
Trees are patient
And you my child are awake

Waves are crashing
Rivers churning
Planets twirling, stars ablaze
Storms are raging
Atoms whirling
And you my child are awake

Chorus:
To perceive these wonderous things
To count the beat of a blackbird's wings
To tell a story and dance and sing

All of the splendors
Of creation
Are very happy that you came
Because they needed
Someone to see them
And you my child are awake

(Chorus)

Seeds are hopeful
Dewdrops fleeting
Oak trees crooked, Redwoods straight
And they are not known
To the sleeping
But you my child are awake
You my child are awake
You my child

Ocean Mary

There's a street in a river town
And on that street is Mary's house
By the house is a deep ravine
And running there is a magic stream
Laughing over the sand and rocks
It runs the length of Mary's block
Another mile to the riverside
And a thousand more to the ocean wide

Now, down in that ravine one day
By the water, Mary lay
Put her hand in the shallow stream
And Mary had a magic dream
She imagined that, inside her, stirred
All the waters of the earth
Every puddle, every creek
And every one of the seven seas

She could feel the fishes roam
In her fingers and her toes
And in her chest, the Gulf Stream flow

Now ever since her dream that day
People say that Mary's changed
But they sympathize when they suppose
It must be strange to be the ocean
She senses when the salmon swim
And hurricanes lick her skin
Asia tickles her left arm
And the moon above tugs her heart
Her front is day, her back is night
She recollects the dawn of life
Tidal waves run up her spine
And lightning tingles when it strikes

She can feel the fishes roam
In her fingers and her toes
And in her chest, the gulf stream flow

And all of this happened, so it seems
Because of Mary's magic stream
But some will say that lakes and wells
And even rain can cast a spell
And every water drop you ask
Tells a tale of oceans vast
So careful when you take a drink
There's magic in the kitchen sink

I know amazon sells them, but I'm not sure they have song clips. Tell ya what, if I get a few minutes tonight, I'll make up a sampler and send it with L. If you like what you hear, there may be a birthday, Yule, or Random Excuse for a Gift package in yer future.. (my own quirky ethics, I love sharing music, but I always make sure my fellow indie artists get their shekels from me in the end)

A review of the album I was mentioning is here (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1197/is_4_47/ai_111695654)

Oh, wait!! A few of the sings have sample clips here (http://www.peppermintcds.com/PeterCDs.html) Enjoy! :>

Plus if you catch him in concert (which is SO worth it) he sells 'em for $15 each, or three for $40. And you can get them autographed that way. :)
