kiddo is home again, a little sore but well, everything went fine and he has a nifty curved steel bar that was a part of his body for 2 years as a toy (his question to the surgeon when asked if he wanted the bar was, "are you going to wash it first?" My little Virgo...) I am tired, but very happy. The statistics and what's "expected" don't really matter much when you're holding your kid's hand as the anesthesiologist holds the mask on his face and he slips into unconsciousness.

Many thanks for the good thoughts!

Thanks for letting us know how it came out. I always hold my breath a little when someone's kid is under the gun or for that matter, under anesthesia.

Now the big question is: what is he going to make</> out of the bar?

(ask him for me, will you?)

Sure thing, and thanks for the good thoughts, they're much appreciated -- I'll have to ask him about the bar, but for now it's just a way cool thing to have in his room.

Sorry I haven't kept up better. I didn't even know this was happening.

Gentle hugs and blessings to all of you.

Thanks, Zann, you're such a dear. They had been leaving the bar in for as long as possible, he's growing so fast that it needed to come out now so it didn't start to cause problems of its own.

Thanks, Hol, I appreciate it!

Pectus Excavatum, and it just so happens that one of four proteges of the person who invented a new laproscopic treatment is here at our hospital. Basically, it's like braces for the chest, they put a bar on the inside and screw it in. It wasn't any fun getting it in, but now that it's done, he should be fine growing up -- one of the few skeletal surgeries that work better the earlier you get it done.

Thanks, and yes, it went just about perfectly, as far as we can tell -- some post-surgery nausea, he seems to have that reaction to general anesthesia, and that's even with them giving him anti-nausea meds, but we were keeping an eye out for that. We'll keep a watch for any signs of infection, but he's a tough kid, didn't even need any pain meds today. He's well, so it's all good :)

I'll say it again - you are such a good daddy... :>

And F. is a brave, strong little kid. From the little I heard when he was heading out the door this am, he sounded much more like himself. Yay!

What a trooper that kid is. :>

Hee hee - yeah, it occurred to me that someone had to've done "Firebird" icons, and I was not disappointed... ;>

Hugs to you - see you tonight over spicy nuts and -tinis!

Yeah, he's a good one, fer sure. Well, look what he has to put up with day in and day out... ;>

I think we could all use a good night out -- we can do the fondue at a later date (maybe Thurs night after C is done with yoga?)

So where do you get yer icons? I mostly made my own, haven't gone looking yet...

We are *excellent* role models. Excellent, I say... (*eyeroll*)

Fondue on Thursday sounds lovely! P. and I can stop at the co-op on the way home if anything extra's needed. Do we have chicken sausage etc?

Well, the "little goddess and consort" icon one from Fantasia 200 came from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] (she's got a bunch of good stuff - check her out!), but I'll do an occasional Google search and all kinds of cool things show up. I do need to start making more of my own, though... ;>

I think P was going to get the "fresh" stuff (veggies, sausage, baguette, etc) the day of fondue (sounds like a foreign film, "Days of Fondue"), so he might need to pick up the goodies on Thursday.

Hoping all the knitting and threading of healing goes easily and recovery is swift and thorough - such an intense cycle of this for a little guy (well, not so little little guy). You are all in my thoughts, S.
