fun and late nights
Jul. 14th, 2008 10:39 amMy Ravishing Partner and I, Lovely Housemates, and Beamish Boy got back home about 2am last night, after a 4-hour flight delay coming home due to weather (bleah, airport was packed wall-to-wall with delayed and stranded travellers, but at least you can get a decent pint in the BWI airport). My Ravishing Partner had planned out a surprise weekend away as a late Father's Day present. All I knew going into it was that we were all going somewhere, I needed to block out the weekend (Friday afternoon until Sunday night), and to pack light and wear comfortable shoes. Fun!
We flew down to D.C., were met by former housemates and dear friends who live a few blocks from where we all used to live, and spent the weekend talking, laughing, catching up on triumphs and tragedies, eating at old haunts and favorite hangouts, exploring the museums (Air&Space for Forest, Sacker for me, and the Jim Henson exhibit in the Ripley Center opened on Saturday, yum!), wilting under the heat (yeah, we've gotten *so* unacclimated to D.C. weather...), meeting up with many old ex-housemates and friends from all over (it was so great to see you all, and for those who didn't get the news yet, Roth and Elizabeth are married(!), and she's due with their first child in October, and Feather and Cheryl had their second, a girl, 2 weeks ago). And Saturday night, after dinner at Jaleo's (YUM!), as a special surprise treat for Forest (and for me, since I got to watch him watch it), C took us all out to a Weird Al Yankovich concert. Now *that* was a cultural experience...
Tired now, and much catching up to do all over the place, but it was a lovely weekend away, and a wonderful way to celebrate how precious family and friends are, and how important it is to take a few days every so often for pure fun.
