chelidon: (Tractor Caution)

I was recently gifted with some old family pictures, or rather, an album I put together as a child and teenager came back home to me, after some years of not knowing if it still existed. This one pic was taken on the farm my great-uncle used to have in Pennsylvania, during the hay harvest. The man half in the pic is my grandfather. Well, I guess I come by this stuff honestly...

So i kid you not my first thought was, "She thinks my Tractor's Sexy! It really turns her on!" from a country song that was popular a couple years ago. Thank you for letting that loose in my brain :P

I guess, in your case, you can neither take the boy out of the farm nor the farm out of the boy. :)

Hahaha. Thanks. It's from when I was 10. Class picture -- the only one I ever liked. :)

Humph. We are a John Deere family, thank you.

Like our dear friend [livejournal.com profile] blue_sky_48220, I come from a John Deere family, too! But since it's you, I'll forgive this minor transgression. :)

I love looking back at old photos that predict or lay the foundations for our future selves. For instance... there are several photos of me as an Evil Queen for Halloween out there. Four years in a row. Quite telling.

What a great shot!

Ah, well, you know, I was just an innocent and didn't know any better... ;> But now, I've gone all the way to the dark side, I have one of those orange tractors (see previous reply). But, well, it's what I could afford, and my dealer is local and a very good guy.

I hear what you say about kid pics, you evil queen, you :> Hee hee.

I'm thinking about how opportunities like this taught me love for working outdoors, and the great joy of working with your hands, and doing hard work until it's done, and growing things that take time, and I'm very grateful for times and lessons like those.

Heh. Yeah, but I didn't have any choice about the IH tractor, it just came with the uncle ;>

But now, I have to admit, I'm even more of an utter heretic, I'm using an orange Korean thing:

http://www.casachaos.net/Casa_Chaos2003-2004/pages/page_368.html

On the other hand, it has a couple times the horses (especially at the PTO) as that old FarmAll, it most definitely packs the gear (http://www.casachaos.net/Casa_Chaos2003-2004/pages/page_367.html), and while it has a shuttle for quick direction switching, it's a good reliable gear tractor, not one of those power-stealing hydro monstrosities... I'd feel guilty, but the local dealer down the road talked me into it, and I have to admit I haven't had one spot of trouble with that tractor, it's been absolutely 100% rock solid, has done everything I've thrown at it, which is my definition of a good tractor!
