My week has consisted of getting up, working on the house and barn, going to work, coming home and working on the house and barn, rinse, repeat. It's been an energetic buzz seeing it all come together, but there's fatigue, too, not much down-time at all (though I did squirrel away time to watch some episodes of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica at night, though with dubious wisdom, it coming at the cost of some much-needed sleep)

Today I came home after a trip to the hardware store to pick up a double-outdoor door for the barn and much ironmongery to spiff it up properly, to find several friends, including two dear friends from Connecticut, here to help for the weekend. One friend already had a roaring fire in the wood stove, and there's news that several more folks are showing up to help tomorrow.

I am so used to working alone on creative projects that it's a real mental shift to organize these building projects as a team, more like the way I would structure a project or initiative at work, and there are aspects of it that are still a stretch, including giving up control of individual pieces. But besides having more hands to share the work, I love how much learning opportunity there is when building and creating with others, and how the outcome can be more than the sum of the parts, something more than just adding what each of us can do alone. Also, I love my home, and adore my housemates, and we all have such a wonderfully interlocking set of skills and interests and creative and artistic pursuits. But there are times when I wish I wasn't the only carpenter, or electrician, or plumber, or whatever, when it would be nice to be able to share those tasks as well. So it's fun to get hot and sweaty with builder-friends, and swap stories, and ideas, and create things together.

And now, the fatigue is really setting in hard, enough that it's breaking through the jazzed-up energy of BuilderMan, so it's time to go stumble into bed for some much-needed rest, until tomorrow, when we'll get up far too early and start in on the last push for this round of projects. Fun tomorrow, but sleep now. G'night.

LOL -- go easy on the Galacti-crack. And rest is THE BEST. Wishing you plenty of time for all of it.
