Given the way the votes looked going into this, I'm not shocked, but saddened and angry nonetheless:
Senate votes for ANWR oil drilling
May our descendants forgive us for our folly and shortsightedness. Not that it will matter whether they forgive us or not, if this moves forward -- what's done is done, and you can't unring a bell or unscrew the pooch. Or return wilderness to its pristine state once you've opened it for vehicles, oil exploration, drilling and transportation.
It's going to be a long four years. Hold onto the anger and the fight you have, we're all going to need it.

Date: 2005-03-16 10:42 pm (UTC)I looked at the news headlines this afternoon, and saw within the first three - this, that we've sentenced someone else to the death penalty, and that we've appointed an asshole to be President of the infamous World Bank. The only consolation was that Connecticut has received research that gay marriage would save the state money and be a boon to the local economy. We'll see if that has any impact.
But I have new worms in my worm bin. And next week I travel hundreds of miles to be with 50 of my most beloved in the Pagan Cluster. We'll examine our own dirty laundry, and take some time to celebrate and vision. And tonight I'll go sing songs with witches and pagans and new agers and hippies. And I'll keep working on my syllabus for a new Elements class - knowing that if anyone ever registers we'll have rich tools to share and then they'll have work to do and tools to share and on it will go.
"hold on, hold on, hold the vision that's being born"
