It is 61 degrees outside today, 32 degrees above average for January 6. The average high so far for the month of January is 51 degrees. January in New Hampshire, 51 degrees. It may get back down to more normal levels mid-week, but until then, it's Spring. Feh.

On the other hand, it is my partner and my 17th wedding anniversary today, with the 22nd anniversary of our first date later this month, and it is my Lovely Housemate Kelly's birthday, all excellent things to celebrate. Because the house is stuffed full all weekend with Feri folk, we're going to postpone festivities until next weekend, along with our annual household 12th night celebration (where we try to outdo ourselves with homemade food and drink and exchange our seasonal presents -- takes a lot of pressure out of the holidays!). We did make it out to our favorite local pub last night, though, to see Sirsy, one of the best bands I've seen in a long time play, and we danced until we closed out the place after the third set. Check Sirsy out if you get a chance -- they're an amazing duo that manages to sound like six people. The lead singer (what a voice!) also plays drums at the same time (standing up), and pulls out her flute every so often and wails away Ian Anderson-style. They play a lot of their own original stuff, but also cover just about everything known to man. Just a fantastic, talented, rockn' group.

There's already been a lot of dancing in 2007, I'm happy to say. We reorganized the main floor in the house for New Year's Eve to make maximum open space in the living room-- wood floors making a good sized dance floor, decent speakers (a present to ourselves this past year), an eclectic playlist of music we know we'll like, from rock to punk to reggae to techno, and the best bar in town, light show courtesy of iTunes and a big-ass monitor, what's not to like? There's been a request for a dance party tonight after the Feri work, so if they all actually have enough energy left after the night ritual, we may all get to shake it once again. Whee! There was not nearly enough dancing last year.

Today I get to have my son teach me to play Pokemon (insidious meme that it is), and go out and rehearse for tomorrow's session in the studio recording a CD of Appalachian music. Yesterday I finished a big freelance piece, and am on track to get another big feature out the door Monday or Tuesday. I get to play host to some lovely people, be the recipient of all kinds of good juicy ritual energy, and I get to spend some time hanging out with my bud and comrade in constructive mayhem [livejournal.com profile] yezida.

All in all, the year is starting out well, after a fairly rough ending of 2006. I finally got paid for one of the three months of outstanding invoices from last year, so I have hope the other two months will come along soon, which will greatly reduce my financial stress level. And I spent way too much of the end of 2006 feeling tired, down, antisocial, out of sorts and having frustrating periods of writer's block. With the turning of the new solar and calendar years, I can feel things shifting back to a more even keel, I can feel the anticipation of new life, new possibility, abundance in love and health and opportunity and all the good things of the material world, coming like a big ol' seed, getting ready to sprout, putting down roots and putting up shoots, leaves and flowers. We're still in the dark time, and there's still a lot of Winter left to go, but the light is growing every day, and, especially on a warm, warm day like today, you can feel Spring coming, almost just around the corner. Good times are ahead, and good times are happening right now, all around us.

Congratulations re. your anniversaries! (Also, that means I was not-quite-four when you two had your first date. This is a good antidote to all the grey hairs Raven keeps finding on me....)

Thanks! And hmmph! Grey hairs, indeed, ya young buck! A mark of character, says I (though I do not seem to have been gifted with any yet myself, which I atribute to clean living and proper moral behaviour....cough cough)

Oh, swimmingly! We haven't yet played a full game (see latest entry), but I can see why this is such an addiction...clever card makers, evil geniuses... ;>

And thank you -- it doesn't seem like that long, but it's sure a gift to have had so much time together!
