I can't help but giggle, reading a colleague's estimation that the closest phonetic pronunciation for the Middle Egyptian form of the name for the deity we transliterate into English from Greek as "Anubis" was something along the lines of "eenie-poo" or "weenie-poo" (transliteration of heiroglyphics "jnpw")
Somehow, calling Anubis "weenie-poo" seems so wrong, but hey, a rose by any other name...
