In the baggage section of the airline I will be flying later today across the Atlantic pond, I see the following information:

The following items CANNOT be carried in your hand baggage:

Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)
Catapults
Household cutlery
Knives with blades (of any length)
Paper knives
Razor blades
Tradesmen's tools
Darts
Scissors
Knitting needles
Sporting bats
Billiard, snooker, pool cues
Hypodermic syringes
If you have a medical reason that means you need to inject during the flight you are permitted to carry syringes in the cabin. But you might be asked to produce medical evidence such as a doctor’s letter when you check in or at security screening. The letter should be kept with you at all times.

This all seems very standard, except...catapults??!

And you know they had to put it in because someone tried it.

Whih airline are you flying with? - cos they always let me take knitting needles now....

I understood "paper knives" as "knives made of paper" and wondered exactly how you were supposed to hijack a plane/assault your fellow travellers with one of those.

I need more sleep.

when we arrived in the US at st louis we were greeted with a sign detailing all the things you can't bring on planes (including bombs - well duh!) and asking if you have any of these items could you kindly return them to your car - err sure. a few 1000 miles away....

I guess it would be unwise to ask the nice security person, "''scuse me, can you hold my place in line while I go back to my car to return my bomb...?"

Exactly! Oh the horror! Oh the anguish! Oh the drama!

Guess I'll just have to pick up a spare catapult once I arrive.

I trust you'll find something suitable.

And have a fabulous, fabulous camp! And smooth travels.

Thank you! I always prefer a complete lack of adventures in travelling :> Have a lovely couple of weeks yourself, and I'll look forward to catching up when I get back!

Yeah, I'm not going to try -- I checked, and they say they'll allow an extra bag...for $100 eastbound and 80 pounds going west. Yikes. I will take you up on your kind offer of a bodhran, then, but will bring my own beaters with me (tho' declaring "a bag of beaters" might get some interesting looks ;>)

So I will be travelling relatively light to camp. Oh, how shall I survive? Ah well, I shall utilize my superpower of Pack-Fu, and we shall see...

Let's get that car reservation sometime soon after I arrive, okay? It's a long walk to Wales... ;> I also have a couple of possible path/ritual supply questions, but I can ask them when I see you. Nothing critical, or too obscure. Well, might as well ask here...mask-making supplies, but for wildcrafted/plant masks, so a roll of twine, maybe glue, a little cardboard, scissors. I suspect I can find some vine, ivy, ferns, etc, out on the land once there. And if it's possible, seven "portal veils," basically pieces of cloth long enough to make something you can walk through. Any colors are fine, though solids and neutrals, especially black or red would be ideal. No need to buy anything new just for this, but if you have some fabric already, that would be great. And if that's not available, don't worry about it. I'll explain more than I get there...ritual theatre stuff ;>

See you tomorrow morning!!

Can you take bats as long as they're not in their game gear? Like, if they promise not to wear team colors, can they go?

Or those who exhibit bad game conduct, that is, unsporting bats? I actually read it as prohibiting poor accessorization (I guess bats don't "go" with anything), so, for instance, if you are wearing household cutlery or knitting needles which are sporting bats, that's doubly forbidden.

And I have to agreed that I just don't see the problem with paper knives. I mean, perhaps you could cause a wicked paper cut, but still...

So much for that transit, folding wooden ruler, and pendulum.

I saw an Earnie Kovacs movie a long time ago in which a woman's bra was used as a catapult to take out the bad guys. Does this women can't wear bras?
