OMG. Excellent, excellent article here: Iraq: A Shocking Waste of Money

Whatever your political views, this piece does a damn good job of shooting down most any justification for starting the war in the first place, or for extending it now. The truth is simple -- whether you agree with Bush & Co's strategy for fighting the war (and it's hard for me to see how any even semi-objective person with a brain in their head could see the to-date actions by our U.S. government's leadership in this area as even marginally competent), it just wasn't worth it. Period, end of story.

Bush and his cronies got us into a mess which we will all be paying for, in countless ways, for decades. And we (collectively, not individually) in the U.S. have no one to blame but ourselves -- we elected him. Now will we get a goddamn clue already, and clean house?

We could always do a massive one-time tax collection that would target MORONS that get the country into wars to avenge their still-living parents, vote themselves raises while voting down minimum wage raises and get more than 1000 times the salaries of the lowest paid people in their companies (comparing the ones that get 20 mill/yr with the ones that get 20K/yr).

One quip: Technically we didn't vote for Bush. We had a contested election and Congress reneged on their constitutionally appointed duties to sort it out by handing it over to the Supreme Court which, surprise of surprises, voted right down their respective party lines. Who would have truly had more votes in the end is something we will never know.

But wow, yes, excellent article. I'm definitely including that one in my next "cool links" post.
