A good localvore article can be read here (thanks for the pointer from my Lovely Housemate Paul). And a recent Time magazine piece that mentions one of my valley neighbors, here. Do you know where your food comes from? Do you know who grows it? Do you know how far it traveled to get to you? It's a really good time to find out.

NPR had a great article on a couple of canadians doing that experient some time back, and I've been intrigued ever since . . .

I haven't given up coffee (because, no) but I have been trying to support local roasters, etc. as a step toward better local support since listening to that. And of course the farmer's market, and the yard, etc. Local dairies. Baby steps. Sometimes baby vegetable steps.

I've been trying to eat more local - at the very least taking only foods that come from California, maybe Oregon, when I shop at the grocery store. If a sign doesn't say WHERE it was grown, I move on until it says "California" at least. I don't see any reason to buy fruits (for example) from Argentina, or New Zealand.
