The fact that I forgot I made coffee this morning for three hours just proves exactly how badly I need it.
A woodpecker has bored an inch-wide, inch-deep hole in one of the corner trim pieces of my new office. Nature is grand and all, but hmmph -- it really did not need the decorative addition.
My Lovely Housemate Paul pointed out to me that one of our favorite local dairy farms, from which come some of our very favorite cheeses, is an intentional co-housing community of 23 households, and they are about 35 minutes from here. I am definitely going to have to go visit these folks and see how they have it arranged. From the info on their site, it sounds much like one of the possible ways I've considered setting things up here, though I'm less interested in cluster housing, and more inclined towards scattered 1-5 acre plots with yurts, cabins, etc. It's really, really good to talk to people who have successfully manifested these kinds of things, to see how they structured it legally, and how they made the community economically sustainable. I really like their Principles. There are more and more of these kinds of communities popping up around this area.
I discovered last night about 2am that the toilet tank in the master bath has been leaking, so it is now shut off until I can fix it. This has greatly accelerated the plan to replace the carpet in the bathroom with some lovely ceramic tile (who puts *carpeting* in a bathroom, anyway??) My ravishing partner already has the tile (same as she and
lylythe_strega installed in the entranceway and downstairs hall bath), and will install it once I rip out the now-quite-soggy and disgusting carpet. If I get ambitious, I may put in radiant floor heat under the tile (mmm, warm bathroom floor...), but only if I can secure the materials quickly.
Regular Hot Dates with your Beloved are a Very Good Thing.
The act of moving my office into the new addition gave me the chance/necessity to go through all the big piles of papers and stuff that had accumulated, and simplify, get rid of, sort, and cull mercilessly. A big green bag of garbage, three paper bags of recyclables, and a bunch of burnable materials into the furnace. I found much stuff I'd been looking for, some things I'd forgotten about, some things that needed to be taken care of immediately, and some stuff I wish I hadn't found. I love being in a space now that is beautiful, was designed with much intention to be a good working and thinking space, and isn't filled with crap. Not letting what I worked so hard to make beautful become piled up with ugly clutter may perhaps be enough incentive for me to keep it from getting out of hand. It's already easier to focus on work with less stuff piled about.
I am seriously bummed that the very dear
ravenedgewalker and
snakey cannot come visit this month, but at least I will get to see them in the U.K. soon enough, and Fall is just lovely out here... [insert tempting sounds] A number of other dear comrades, co-conspirators, and ex-housemates are going to be visiting over the coming months, as well as one of my most splendidly favorite Austinites, and my in-laws will be here for some weeks during the period coming up when both my son and partner are going to be in the hospital within 2 weeks of one another, and we'll be helping one of the Lovely Housemates move into her own house nearby, so it will be a typically busy summer at the Casa. I hope to have the guest space in the house addition finished in time for all the visitors...
I can reach out and touch a big window to my left, beyond which is a world filled to overflowing with the scintillating, burgeoning, insistantly irrepressible Springtime greening of May, the daily dramas of the wild playing out in full Sensurround inches away. Over my head is a big skylight through which I can see enormous maple trees silhouetted against a beautiful sky above. I have a purring cat in my lap, and a cup of hot coffee in my hand. All is right with the world :>
And it is long past time for me to go stretch my legs outside! May we all manifest beauty, balance, delight, and love beyond all reason in our lives.
