Another unrelenting, courageous heretic, and while I didn't agree with everything he wrote, he was an unashamed liberal in the best sense of the word, and always an incredible breath of fresh air among the plundering hordes of uncaring, conscienceless lassez-faire capitalists and their lapdog right-wing economists. His pithy comment on trickle-down economics, the Reagan/Thatcher/Bush-beloved theory that the best way to help the poor and middle class is to use governmental power to make the rich even richer, was priceless: "If you feed enough oats to the horse, some will pass through to feed the sparrows." In other words, fellow economists, your pet theory is pure horseshit ;>

May we all have such courage, to challenge the established wisdom and entrenched power structures in the name of compassion, humanity, and a more just society. That which is remembered, lives.
