surgery update
Mar. 30th, 2006 10:31 amA quick note from the hospital -- the surgery was successful, Claudia is okay. They ended up keeping her overnight, but all is well. One of our housemates was with her at all times, and I was able to stay overnight with her, and we're hopeful we'll be going home by lunch.
There's something to be said for synchronicity, and being in the right place at the right time. We're living out in the woods, but are 20 minutes from one of the very best hospitals in the country, which is where my partner works, so she's an "insider," and what would already be excellent care becomes truly world-class extraordinary. The surgeon who performed the operation is the head of surgery for the entire hospital, a real legend (and what's even more rare, an experienced surgeon with a good bedside manor). Claudia's anaesthesiologist was the partner of one of Claudia's co-workers, and before the operation, he tried to palm off some extra sheep from their farm ;> After the surgery, between Claudia and I, we managed to glamour the post-op recovery room staff into totally ignoring the 15 minute visit rule (which Simply Isn't Done), and I got to stay with her continually from after the surgery right up until they took her to her room, doing healing work and just being there the whole time, which was a very good thing for both of us :>
For those old Chaote friends and colleagues of mine, know that not only was the table where we had Tex-Mex and margaritas the night before table 23, but Claudia was assigned to surgery room 23. Thanks, guys.
More later, but this step into the unknown was a good one, a step towards health and a joyful life. I am so grateful, to...everyone and everything, it goes way beyond expression. Life is good.
