I like the fact that the regional paper has a story about a local dowser (who just died) on the front page today. My favorite bit: "Jenks died Feb. 8 at home in Lyme, the town where he had spent most of his life. He was 75. He didn't go to dowser's conventions and wouldn’t hang out with New Age types. If dowsing is a magical art, Yankees like Jenks took it as a practical one, too. “He was one for survival,'’ said his son, Christopher."

That seems to be how most folks around here look at the magickal and mystical. It's not a moral issue, rather, does it help you do something practical? Great, all for it, so long as it works. That pretty much seems to be the prevailing view about organized religion as well, which may explain why New Hampshire supposedly has the lowest per capita rate of regular church attendance in the nation.

Chop wood, carry water. Speaking of which, it's about time to go bring in some more wood.

*grins* Sounds like many a dowser I've known...

Ever read Lethbridge?

Hmm, no, heard of him, but has never bubbled up to the top of the stack (embarassing to admit for the owner of "geomancy.com" ;>) A quick Google search on Lethbridge turns up some reading I'd love to do, though...thanks for the pointer!

A good book to begin with is his "The Power of the Pendulum." Last I checked it was out of print, but it's obtainable through bookfinder and similar resources -- check Powells web site too, and of course the Amazon marketplace. Lethbridge is a former archaeologist who came to dowsing with a scientific mindset and wound up frustrated that his skeptical colleagues wouldn't give it a try. He's funny, too, in a dry, withering, British way.

I am very fond of the dry British wit (Brit-wit?), and it sounds like I'd really enjoy reading him, thanks!
