iconic day
Feb. 14th, 2006 03:04 amI just had kind of an iconic Austin day. Late wakeup after a late night up Sunday, a very good Tex-Mex lunch, lovely company and much engaging conversation with
rainysummerday, a trip out to Hamilton Pool with dear friends (many pics to follow, when I get back home and can upload them), a drive through the Hill County, then drinks, dinner and sunset at the Oasis (much of which burned down last year, but some of which is open again) at Lake Travis, catching Godzilla vs King Kong, a documentary on Jamaician "sound systems," and the origins of Reggae, Dub, and Ska, and a good musical documentary about the Nigerian musical rebel Fela Anikulapo at the original Alamo Drafthouse Cinema with the frighteningly talented impresario
contentlove and other friends, followed by some very...interesting experimental (quite wretched, if fun and very, very loud) electronica at Plush, a local club, and drinks and more conversation (once we could hear again) at Casa Content.
It has been a lovely several day jaunt, with highlights including wonderfully good times and good food shared with
morrigandaughtr and
mystfemme, catching two showings of the most excellent Dark Goddess production at the Vortex theatre, dress-up, fun and dancing at the Dark Goddess Ball, and both planned and surprise meetings with many friends I don't get to see nearly often enough. And, as always, the trip was too short, because there are a lot of friends I'd hoped to see, but will have to wait to hang out with until next time. And as always, the trip was no longer than it should have been, as I very, very much miss my loved ones at home, and am eagerly looking forward to catching up, and a delightful Valentine's Day dinner and evening at the Casa. Wandering to visit dear friends is so lovely, and there's absolutely no place like home.
