Report: U.S. was 'outsourcing' torture

It is looking increasingly likely that we (that's us, the "good guys") are running and supporting a network of secret torture centers around the world. If the U.S. government, or somebody in it, decides it doesn't like you, you disappear, secretly taken to some anonymous foreign location where you are tortured without appeal, oversight, or hope of escape. One can only imagine the inhuman horrors that would go on in such a place, where nobody has to worry about anyone ever finding out what happens inside. Then, at some point, presumably you are tortured to death, or otherwise disposed of in some anonymous fashion, since nobody has heard of anyone ever leaving one of these torture centers to tell the tale.

This differs from pure evil, how? Oh, right. Because we're the "good guys."

Wasn't that one of the points in Serenity? The fanatic does things because he genuinely believes that killing the innocent when "necessary" will result in a better world.

Those pesky laws and the Geneva Convention just tie the hands of those who are wielding the Sword of Justice and Backed by God. *gag*

Exactly. "The ends justify the means," along with "whatever we decide to do has to by definition be 'good' and 'right' and 'necessary' because we're 'the good guys.'" Not anymore...

Yep, I saw that...I really do hope they get the hard evidence, but while the rendition flights leave public records, I'm sure the torture facilities are quite well-hidden and will be very difficult to pin down. It's not like you need a big elaborate facility to hold and torture a few prisoners...
