a good morning
Jan. 13th, 2006 11:00 am*bounce!* I just got all the household denizens front row center tickets for Patrick Street, perhaps the best Irish trad. music group touring -- the three original founders are all legends, coming from the seminal (and much mourned) groups Planxty, De Dannan and Bothy Band. I love our little local Opera House, they always manage to book the best acts...
Before the show, we'll likely head next door to Salt Hill Pub for supper and a pint. Salt Hill is one of those quiet, unassuming holes in the wall that you later find out is a part of musical history, particularly in former decades, but it still showcases a wide variety of music, as well as having some great open mike nights. David Crosby was in there not too long ago, and they've apparently started up a regular Tuesday seisiún which my Lovely Housemate Angelica dropped in on this week and said was excellent. So, no excuses for me, as soon as work calms down a little, I'll grab my bodhran and guitar and hope to be able to keep up.
And I just got home from a whirlwind morning at the hospital, where I found out, among other things, that I do in fact have two kidneys. Yes, believe it or not, that was in doubt for a while. Long story, but I'll just say I'm a bit relieved, and hey, it's good to know that I've got one to sell if things ever get really desperate ;>
And just a few minutes ago, my clothes order came in. Santa brought me a $50 gift certificate, and frugal bugger that I am, I turned it into a black, a maroon and forest green mock-turtlenecks (what the heck is "biopolished cotton?"-- they're very soft and comfy, anyway), a light brown merino wool sweater, and a set of black tartan "loungewear" -- fancy name for soft flannel PJs, I guess, in which I plan to spend the rest of the day. Comfy clothes are definitely a blessing.
So, all in all, an excellent morning, a mixture of weird, wonderful and reassuringly mundane. Now off to write 4000 good words -- no rest for the wicked!
