From the journal of my Lovely Housemate [livejournal.com profile] lylythe_strega: Screw the seniors - but the "war" is well-financed!

Another first-hand account of another despicable way in which the costs of Bush's idiotic New Crusade come home to roost, upon the backs of the people who can least afford it. Sure, we can fight a war and give tax-cuts to the wealthy, no problem...all we have to do is let the elderly starve. That's compassionate conservatism for you.

Please let this specific straw break your own camel, and write, call, visit your congresscritters, today. Contact information for Congress is here, or you can go to the House and Senate sites. Let 'em know you don't support letting our seniors starve so that Bush can fight his insane war. They won't know unless we tell 'em, lots of us.

I wish I weren't surprised. Or that I were more surprised.

All letters off to my useless Republican representatives.

Good for you, and thanks. I find it constantly astonishing that any sane person could desire the world the neocons are trying their best to build.

I'm getting similar fallout. There's not as much funding for mental health services now, so requests for an extension for therapy (that have been consistently and predictably granted until now) are suddenly being denied left and right. It's hard to tell a family, "I'm sorry, I can tell you're all very tired of living with so much dysfunction and psychological pain. Unfortunately, you're not in quite enough pain. Best of luck. Ciao."

The message, unspoken but clear is, "Get worse. Then maybe we'll help you. Maybe." Or simply, "It sucks to be you."

Back to the Victorian age, perhaps, or a darker version even Dickens couldn't have imagined. I just find it shameful how the weakest and least able are being sacrificed at every turn.
