...than this would be hard to find, it was such a lovely day.

--Though it started out rough, with an all-nighter for work (still, plenty of pent-up demand for my work is a good problem), then driving me mum to the airport, then back home and more work. But in between, having my former favourite regular freelance gig come back, at least for a while, now negotiated to include all the bits I liked, and none of the ones I didn't, so I'll be getting 4/5 of my former pay for about 2 days/week of work, giving me plenty of time to work on other projects (house/land projects, book proposal, etc), which is precisely the kind of balance I was hoping/working to achieve. We'll see how long it keeps up, but it makes for a very merry holiday season.

--A 4-hour show rehearsal tonight -- tiring, no doubt, especially on the heels of no sleep last night, but I love the work, I really do. At the Saturday all-day rehearsal, the artistic director was talking about how the unusual intervals and arrangements of some of the eastern European songs are so raw and powerful, it just blows your heart wide open (in a good way), and he's quite right. Everyone in the company is saying this is by far the most difficult production they've ever done, but also potentially the best, most powerful show they've done. It's a stretch for all, and I'm grateful to be involved. If it goes well, we may be taking it into the studio to record the show for distribution -- which will lose all the drama, of course, but at least we'll get the music. Now, I've got to get seriously heads down in memorizing alllll of the Russian, Georgian, Ukrainian, etc words, along, of course, with the music, because we're to be off-music Really Soon Now. Time to kick my own ass a bit.

--Phone calls, emails, and time hangin' in the house with people I love and care about so very deeply. Reconnecting with an old colleague and friend, chatting with friends and former housemates who are actively pursuing their dreams all over the world, and making really exciting plans for Spring and Summer.

--And it's starting to really feel like winter. Despite 55-degree weather today, this Wed-Sat it looks like the high will not get much above freezing, so the stream will start to seriously ice over, which gets so gorgeous, jewels flashing and sparkling, in endless coruscating depths of refractions and reflections, like a forest path made all of mirrors...yum. Of course that means it's time to put the back blade and the ice chains on the tractor, getting ready to plow.

Life is good...really, really good.
