Heating bills, oil expected to rise (subhed: Government sees a jump in heating costs this winter due to hurricanes and colder temperatures.)

Ah-yup. Allowing for occasional temporary downward fluctuations, energy costs will keep on going up, on average, and they'll suddenly shoot way up, like this year, whenever there are any disruptions at all to supply or production. We're really on the edge here with energy supply and demand, and barring sudden drops in demand (worldwide recession/depression, etc), it's not going to get any better, as petro production peaks. I'm somewhat worried about natural gas supply this winter, both for home heating and electrical production -- not how much it will cost, but whether there will be enough to go around at any price. We'll see.

My wood boiler is going in at this very moment, so by tonight or tomorrow, Casa Chaos will be off oil-based heat. Good timing... And we'll have heat and have hot water again, something of increasing concern to all of us in the house (I pulled the oil boiler out yesterday morning) ;>
