memage and being here now
Oct. 5th, 2005 07:18 pmThis one tickled me, because it is pretty much me all over. And coming up on Samhain, as I look to the past and the future, ancestors and descendants, I'm focusing ever more intensely on being here now. That's all there really is, a series of splendid, profound and delicate nows. Until there ain't. Each now is exquisitely rare, a unique pearl in a strand of uncertain length. Yet the way to make them all what they could and should be is not to focus on the scarcity, and tight-fisted, hoard them like a joyless miser, but rather, embrace each one, fully, as it comes. Take each now for what it is, bitter or sweet, a delicious gift -- drink down every precious drop with wild hunger, love, passion and vigor, leaving nothing behind. We live this particular "wild and precious" life once only. And for many, sadly, not even that much. Drain it dry, suck the marrow, claim your birthright and take in with joy every last bit that is yours to have in this life.
