various stuff
May. 23rd, 2005 04:55 pmI love the color of Spring, the vibrant new-born greens that just explode from the trees at this time of year... It's very cool and wet and misty today, Irish weather -- it rained on and off over the weekend, and it's supposed to be a very wet week as well. The stream is running high, and it's a bit chilly, high of 53, low of 46. Nice night for a little fire in the fireplace and a hot toddy, perhaps, after I get back from the last Malinke drumming session with these fine folks. We'll be starting another six-week session together in June -- I am so grateful for the regular opportunity to jam, learn some new rhythms and have the excuse to go back and clean up my own form, which has gotten a bit sloppy over the years.
Here's a few pics of our Spring:
Spring Green 1
Spring Green 2
Spring Green 3
Spring Green 4
I cut up the two trees that fell on our poor moose, and discovered that the impact didn't hurt the solid wood moose body, just knocked off the antlers and drove the front legs more than two feet into the ground. The ground was wet and spongy and yielding, so the same conditions that gave rise to the tree falling over in the first place saved the moose from serious damage. I'm sure there's a metaphor there somwhere...
So here's the moose now:
Famous Italian, Moose-a-lean-y
An embarrassing angle
Grazing
When I can round up a crew (that moose is heavy), I'm going to move him elsewhere on the land, so we can build a big labyrinth on top of the hill this summer.
I was reminded of this lovely Whitman quote by the email sig of my path partner for Vermont camp:
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive."
Yum. Delicious.
