This has been the most wonderful weekend (and not over yet!) For my looming birthday, my wonderful household decided to gift me with a weekend of whatever I wanted to do, which, given my schedule of the last several months, was mainly to be a thoroughly, totally lazy load. *BLISS* No better gift, seriously.

So I didn't even get dressed yesterday, have stayed largely off the computer, put aside most of my house projects and work tasks, stayed mostly in bed with the cats yesterday until 2pm, hung out and relaxed all day, and had the most amazing dinner meal, with a big steaming bowl of fresh mussels and veggies in a white wine sauce, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, and one of the best roasts of lamb I've ever had. Oh, and pie. Mmmmm, pie. And one of the bottles of Duval "Entity" Shiraz I'd been saving (well, two, actually, the first one I opened was corked, grr), and an '04 Beringer Reserve Chard, with the last of the "Old Codger" tawny port for afters (seemed appropriate ;>). Last night several of us stayed up and watched Miller's Crossing, having just been talking about Coen brothers' films (the local film society is including a Coen brothers film festival among their offerings coming up soon and we're planning to get season tics at a big $20, yay...)

This morning there was a lovely breakfast in bed, and more snoozing with the cats. Shortly, my Beamish Boy wants to take me out bowling (and, no doubt, pinball and skeeball as well) -- he's been saving up his allowance to do so, his treat. Having an eight-year-old gives me the perfect excuse/mandate to take time out and play. Tonight there is apparently another very lovely meal planned, a surprise, but by being sneaky I know it includes salmon and a cheesecake that my Ravishing Partner has been working on for a good part of today. Tomorrow night after work apparently there will be some sort of dinner with loot and prezzies after, but I think I've already gotten more than I ever could have asked for -- I got some time to slow down and take a few deep breaths, and that's a true gift beyond measure.

Life is good. Really, really good. I plan to suck all the marrow out of every bit of it that I get. And I suggest that you do the same, then let's share stories :) Bon appetit!

I haven't had any marrow yet today, but I DID suck all the milk out of a glass of milk. :)

Oh, I did, I did. OMG...best cheesecake ever, I mean, no hyperbole, C's cheesecake with (organic) cherries on top and handmade crust was literally the best cheesecake I've ever had -- perfect flavor, perfect consistency...and I love cheesecake, and have had quite a few. I may go get some more now, in fact... (yum!)
