...civic duty, that is.

And you know the best thing about voting today? The blessed end (it is most devoutly to be wished) of the incessant phone calls from pollsters and political campaigns every single night of the entire previous month. After weeks of multiple calls all day, every day (and to both personal and business phone lines), we will finally be allowed to sink once more into quiet and obscurity, the circus spotlight having moved on...to the next lucky victims. Bwahahahaha, HERE IT COMES! (tag, no master backs)

Well, you give me at least one reason to be glad WV's primary is late enough to be irrelevant--our population is also small, so we'd be sure to be bugged in every house and hollow (along with the usual media misrepresentation of Appalachians--yikes, I shudder...). ;-)

During the first election after hurricane Katrina, I got endless phonecalls which never asked reasonable questions. I got tired of it, so I turned off my phone. I enjoyed the peace and quiet so much that I never turned my phone back on, unless I wanted to make a phonecall. I do not miss my phone one little bit. Friends have my e-mail.

Yeah, some folks here like the attention, but me, I'm just glad as hell for Caller ID...

With a flock of adults and a school-age kid in the house, it would be pretty hard to do without a phone, but I am very, very glad the personal house line has Caller ID. All calls from "Unknown Caller" (or just any number we didn't recognize right off) went to the answering machine without being picked up. Otherwise I think we would have shut off the phone, at least until the election was over...
