I came this close to buying a Hobart for the kitchen today. Those of you who have done restaurant work will know the heaven of which I speak, and the utter ultimate inexhaustible forms of love my body and soul would have been subjected to for days if not weeks on end by all household residents who cook, clean, or do large-scale event prep in our kitchen, had I been able to acquire said device. Alas, it would have been 1/2" too tall to fit in the existing under-counter kitchen space, so it will have to wait until I redo the counters on that side of the kitchen, perhaps sometime next Summer...

If I suddenly disappear for a month or so next summer, you'll know I snagged a Hobart.

Oh god. The Hobart. The only kitchen appliance worthy of being the cornerstone of a religion ...

mm, yep -- especially considering how the dishwasher is currently out of action. Bleah.

Oh, it really is a religious experience, isn't it? One of my housemates (I won't way which) babbled and whimpered just at the suggestion that we might get one. It's almost Lovecraftian, but in a clean, wholesome way ;>

I helped cook (where I lived) in a co-op of 150 people at UC Berkeley. The Hobart was a must for large batches of quick breads and mashed potatoes, especially, as well as anything dessert-y. Our resident stoner (which was some feat, considering the setting) stuck his arm in while it was moving. He earned a free trip to the ER and six weeks in a cast. :P

I still miss that thing, though I definitely don't have reason for it ...

Well, you DO need something to bake the bread after you've kneaded it in the Hobart. ;)

Hobart lust.....yes, indeed....can't have baking/pastry experience without knowing the love that is that between a chef and their Hobart.....I'd trade in both kitchen-aid's for a Hobart......
Go for it! If you have a chance to get a Hobart at a reasonable price, the counters will wait ;) hehehe

Whee!

Sings:

We all come from the Hobart
And to it we shall return
Like a stack of dishes
Made by hungry pa-a-gans

I think we have a temporary truce -- but the Hobart will come, sooner or later...

mmmmmm, HHHHOObarrrrrrrtt.

'scuse, must go wipe drool off chin.

I strongly suspect that a Hobart was one of those things mentioned in "Darling Nikki," when it is said, "she had so many devices..." Uh-huh.

I hope it's sooner, then LOL Having used and appreciated them in the bakeshop, I can say, I'm completely jealous *grin* not that I'd have a place to put it here, either......but then, I'd probably nix the kitchen table and put it there - ha!
Good luck with it!
