"Guerrant" -- French: nickname for a belligerent person or alternatively for a valiant soldier, from guerrer ‘to fight’.

From a dream I had last night, woke up this morning with that word on my lips -- was a bit out of my piker-league French, but based on the root, the ending and the dream, figured it probably had something to do with a warrior.

Hard to beat Bill the Bard.

Lesson: Timing is everything.

Advanced lesson: we derive meaning from things primarily by their context -- Where, When, Who, How and Why -- and within context, by comparison.

From "The Merchant of Venice," Act V
Enter PORTIA and NERISSA

PORTIA
That light we see is burning in my hall.
How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

NERISSA
When the moon shone, we did not see the candle.

PORTIA
So doth the greater glory dim the less:
A substitute shines brightly as a king
Unto the king be by, and then his state
Empties itself, as doth an inland brook
Into the main of waters. Music! hark!

NERISSA
It is your music, madam, of the house.

PORTIA
Nothing is good, I see, without respect:
Methinks it sounds much sweeter than by day.

NERISSA
Silence bestows that virtue on it, madam.

PORTIA
The crow doth sing as sweetly as the lark,
When neither is attended, and I think
The nightingale, if she should sing by day,
When every goose is cackling, would be thought
No better a musician than the wren.
How many things by season season'd are
To their right praise and true perfection!
Peace, ho! the moon sleeps with Endymion
And would not be awaked.

If you, or anyone you know is interested in a work-from-home freelance writing/editing job, very good pay (as these things go), and if you've got the experience listed below, please post a comment here with your email addy, and I'll get back to you with more information. The "topics" mentioned in this case are technology-related, but that's for an ideal candidate -- the journalism/writing skills and experience are rather more important than hard-core tech credentials, as long as the person has some knowledge of/experience with/interest in technology-related topics, and is willing and able to learn.

-------
I'm looking for experienced journalists and reviewers, people who are both editors and writers, people who know the topics and who can report stories. No analysts, please. No consultants. No one outside our profession.
