Er, sure. Definite squick factor there. Always humbling to know we aren't apart from nature, we're a part of it (and it's, well, a part of us, sometimes in not pleasant ways)

A friend of mine once commented that this planet is like one big restaurant. Some critter is always eating someone else.

Humans have this strange notion of a pyramidal food chain. In reality, we live in (and are a part of) an ecosystem.

Sure, I personally want to avoid being eaten. But I also understand that my wishes might not go gown as I would like.

Yep. I figure I'm going to get eaten one way or another, the best I might be able to do is exercise some choice. No fancy box, just stick me in the ground with an acorn in my mouth.

One of my favorite movie scenes in this vein was the original Jurassic Park, when the fat idiot dude was being herded by the wee little raptors, when he, still not understanding his peril (and just prior to being eaten), exclaimed something like, "What do you want? I don't have any meat!" Oh, dude. You are so wrong.
