Last night, instead of the usual "Whiskey You're the Devil" goodnight song for my son (he asks for it every night), I sang him Four Green Fields. And so it goes, the songs and dreams of our ancestors are carried to another generation, to love if they will and do with as they may.

I had an all-day meeting scheduled for today which got cancelled, so I'm taking the day off and doing a sequel to the surprise trip to Six Flags with my son. He doesn't know yet, but I think he'll figure it out pretty quickly when we get on the highway. Heh. If the weather holds, I think we'll check out the big water park section of the park, which we haven't had a chance to try yet. Oh, this fatherhood thing is rough, but I'll suffer through somehow...

My Ravishing Partner is off for a week and a half teaching at Spiralheart camp, so I'm doing the single-dad thing (along with the help of my Lovely Housemates, and both sets of grandparents), and I'm really enjoying the extra time with my son. And...I already dearly miss my partner C, and will I am sure miss her even more by the end of next week. The cliche is true -- after 22 years, I do love C more deeply every day, and our relationship is still evolving and challenging and unfolding in new and fascinating ways. And...there, too, it's okay and good to have some extra space every now and again. I notice that I have more time for myself this week, and that I'm hungry for it. I am at heart a hermit, an introvert, and alone time is essential for me. Even as a host, teacher, manager (eek!), and sometimes-playing-an-extrovert-on-TV, I find myself, for instance, taking a quiet moment out of a bardic circle I'm hosting to get a few moments alone in my office. The quiet time feeds me, and now that I don't have the working from home time every day, I need it all the more at other times.

So I'm taking a moment, with a purring Maine Coon in my lap to write a bit, and look out the window to enjoy the view of the woods, and an abundant harvest of cherry tomatos, kohlrabi, cauliflower, lettuce, broccoli, snap peas, eggplant, herbs and blooming morning glory (must water all before I go), and then, once more into the breach, my friends, immersing myself in a theme park, no less. It's all about balance, and movement, and change, breathing in and out, and trying to figure out how to get what ya need to be happy. Good health, and good balancing to you all.

Hope you have a fantaboulous day with your boy!

And I so much recognise your need for stillness! With the injured hubby at home all the time I really yearn for his first mountainbiking trip on a Sunday....but that will probably not happen the first couple of weeks.
Stillness is good food for the souls!
