I was able to snag an inexpensive Hi-8 editing deck on eBay last week, which means that at long last, using the analog-digital converter I have, I can digitize the library of aging hi-8 camcorder tapes I have stored away from the mid-90's through 2000. While I work on other things, I'm digitizing away, and talk about renewing old memories...

The tape playing now is from a trip to Wales, Scotland and Ireland my partner and I took some years ago. We traveled through Wales and into Scotland with another couple (::waves at
eedge ::), then I went off alone on a rambling musical tour through the west of Ireland, and worked my way back across to a tiny town in the northeast where I met C, who was staying with a marine biologist friend and the three of us rambled about some more. As the tape winds past, Coole Park, the Burren, making trouble with a town full of musicians and storytellers at Willie Clancy festival at Mitown Malbay, being guided to hidden holy wells with rag trees and pin trees all around, kitchen ceilis hanging out, tale-telling and performing with amazing Uilleann pipers and sean nos singers, passage tombs, crawling around Dowth and Knowth, hitchhiking along misty country roads, pubs, forts, cliffs and shores, and just soaking in the life, the history, the living tales and songs hidden in the land all around, echoing in my heart...
Yum. Today, a misty grey drippy day full of promise and memory, I am swimming in good memories of the past.
