As a sometimes member of the Fourth Estate, I am not much proud of my profession these days. There are exceptions, but in general, genuine journalism is rare indeed.
Back in the 1980s, I spent some time working in the newsroom. My impression then, as now, is that 'genuine journalism' is alive and well in the heads of staff members ... and is too-often pre-empted or shut down by budget constraints and the publisher's economic interest (are these the same or different?).
But about Harvey playing Edna playing Mrs. Claus -- what a hoot! Thanks for sharing!
You're quite welcome! And I think you're quite right as well -- I know a fair number of good journalists, but the overall system is skewed to sensationalism ("if it bleeds, it leads") and by the corporate ownership of media outlets. There's hope from bloggers and indy media, as well as some smaller papers and outlets, but in general, truth in journalism is in sad shape.
