From
One Year. One Year ago the devastation of our city began. If you would
like to show support for New Orleans please join us in spreading this
meme. Please post the following image on your site or blog by

as that will display it from my own flickr account. Thank you. Now I

Date: 2006-08-29 09:37 pm (UTC)It's always amazed me how much impact French culture and history has had on the history and culture of the United States, and how little attention that is typically given. Most obvious example: Revolutionary War? Wouldn't have happened, but for the French.
A lot of this country's soul, particularly that portion which was most heavily-influenced by French-speaking peoples, came out of New Orleans and surrounding areas. And it still is there, but hanging tenously to life. I hope the soul of New Orleans comes back to full, healthy vigor. This country needs it, sans doute.
