Personally, I suspect you were an arch-demon shapechanging into a troll for fun (maybe there was a family of billy-goats about...), just as my friend draiguisge was a trickster dragon slumming as a rat.

Oh man, I'm so sad. I just thought, "aha! that bloody wand *does* have a use other than randomly strengthening archdemons" and "so *that's* how you kill the gelatinous cube!"
