chelidonWe brought my son home today. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the solstice.
There were some very rough spots at the hospital, especially the first two days. I can't tell you how many doctors and nurses said, in total seriousness, "that's the bravest six-year-old I've ever seen." It was very hard to watch him having to be so brave. Right now, though, the biggest problem is keeping him from jumping up and doing all the things he wants to do that he shouldn't (running, jumping, twisting and turning, bending at the waist, etc). Pain meds are amazing things, and "patience" is not in a six-year-old's vocabulary ;> My in-laws show up tomorrow, and then Monday we go into Act 2 of Medical Month, C's radiation treatment. Thanks to all for your thoughts and support, we all have felt it and appreciate them all.

During surgery, while the anaesthesiologists were prepping my son, the surgeon was bored. Beware a surgeon with idle hands... (the patient is "Snakey," my son's rubber snake, which he chose to take into surgery with him. "Snakey" traumatized many nurses over his hospital stay, to Forest's glee ;> Forest is lobbying hard for a pet snake. So far the answer is "maybe a corn snake, when you're seven. If you take good care of your hermit crabs. Maybe.")
