What a frickin' surprise.

Study: Bush tax cuts making rich richer (subhed: Report: The wealthiest Americans are reaping huge gains from reduced taxes on investment income.)

Well, after all, $500,000 doesn't really go a long way these days. And those people can then spend that $500K on things that will allow people who can't quite get by on minimum wage to get a second or third minimum wage job.

Or even better, invest that paltry $500,000 into the stock of some major U.S. company (pick any one these days) which outsources all of its work to third-world countries, then all of your displaced American worker can go get that third minimum-wage job at Walmart so they can afford to buy a pair of $20 Chinese prison-labor shoes with an employee discount *and* feed their kids. The stock goes through the roof, and pretty soon, that $500,000 grows to become almost *real* money.

It's all supply and demand. The less middle-class folks you have (and conversely, the more poor people there are), the smaller the demand for yachts, gold jewelry, Mercedes and so on, and so the price goes down for the lucky few! Woo hoo!

And speaking of taxes....

Some asshat wrote an article in this month's Esquire seriously proposing to wipe out the national debt by taxing overweight people!

I saw a letter to the editor in the Washington Post at one point suggesting that we fine people for having their cars break down on the highway. He keeps his car in perfect condition and it's laziness that keeps everyone from doing the same.

*sigh*

Hmmm...I think we should have a stupidity tax. Every time someone says or does something asinine, they have to pay a $5 fine. Affordable enough, and it would be democratic, since it would apply to everyone.

People under 18 and those who are mentally impaired would not have to pay the tax.

I would tax all people who stand in water!

(*realizing*) Oo!

Agreed...although I'd personally prefer just about anything rather than Dubya for that particular application...bleah.
