FDA: You're eating crushed bug juice

Actually, I would much prefer crushed bug juice to some of the chemicals they put into food products these days.

Living as I do in the land of crawfish, this just does not freak me out like it probably should. I mean, when you really LOOK at some of the food we eat -- really think about shrimp, and caviar, and for that matter, ground pork -- what's a little old bug? :-p

As I told someone else -- carmine has been used for ages. The main difference is that now people don't have to squash the bugs by hand, which makes the dye much more affordable.

That would be a pretty novel job description, tho'... "so what do you do?" "Oh, I'm a bug-squasher." "You mean a computer programmer?" "No, I squash bugs. With my hands."

One of my coven mates, Red, found out that she is dangerously allergic to carmine at camp a few years ago. She had borrowed Darrah's red lip stick listing carmine as an ingrediatnt to wear during a ritual.

Moments after putting on the lipstick, her lips, face and neck started swelling up. She couldn't breathe!

That is when our group found about carmine and beatles. We have avoided them ever since.
